This course is aimed at those who are happy with their flat water roll, feel confident and in control on moderate (grade2/3) water who wish to develop the skills necessary for more advanced rivers.
The two days will be spent improving your technique on steeper rapids and drops. The focus will be on fundamental creeking skills, covering line choice, posture, timing, driving the boat around the river and off those drops.
Take the oportunity to investigate the most modern techniques around boofs and flares.
With low coach to student ratios we will be able to tailor the course to meet your specific needs. There will be the opportunity to use video feedback to help you analyse your own performance and plan your future development.
Over the two days the course will look at the skills and strategies required for moving your canoe around on open water and rivers. This course will be run on the spectacular lakes and rivers of Cumbria.
This course will give you the skills and knowledge to paddle safely and in control with a group on Grade 2. We will look at using the wind to our advantage, with simple sailing setups, as well as:
How to trim the boat to make paddling on open water a breeze.Simple solutions to common rescue situations.Dynamic paddling of a canoe on moving water.Choosing you own path down the river and using the rivers features to you advantage. How to set up your boat for efficient paddling.
There will be an opportunity for a 3 Star assessment during the weekend if you are at the required standard.
Enjoy some of Britain’s best paddling under the care of the best coaches. Paddle classic rivers of the Lake district such as the Lune, Lower Kent and Leven.
These grade 2 and 3 rivers are well within the reach of any intermediate paddler with help from Wild River coaches. Those who want a little bit more might tackle Force Falls or Backbarrow Bridge which may well be graded ain some water levels as grade 4.
Take two days or more to work these great rivers and develop your paddling to go away with new found skill and confidence.
During the course we will help you improve your river reading so that the river does the work for you. We will work on timing. One well timed stroke instead over several. Confidence will be increased as you paddle in a supportive atmosphere where all options are open to you. It often takes greater confidence to walk around a rapid rather than to paddle it blindly.
Using small ratios suitable to the environment you will get the individual attention you need without the intensity of one to one coaching.
